How (and Why) to Reset Your Identity for a Better 2026

END OF THE YEAR REFLECTION FROM A LIFESTYLE DESIGN + AUTHENTICITY COACH
The end of the year always brings in a flood of emotions:
"I did it"
"I didn't do it"
"I'm still going to do it"
"I betrayed myself"
"They left," "They should have left," "I should have [enter dream],"
Everything straight down to "I should have done more golfing," creeps in as either: triumph, regret, acceptance, or forced self given grace. And the data shows us that this high, low, up, down, in, out kind of approach leaves most people creating goals they unconsciously never intend to initiate. It's so staggering that 90% of people in the world set goals only to watch them fall by the wayside. Why? To tell you the truth, and this might shock you, it isn't remotely any fault or your and/or their own; Even though the vast majority of people in the world fall victim to this.
So what happens to trick the brain into thinking it cannot succeed at the thing it sets out to do at the beginning of the year?
Actually, and you might also find this shocking, it is the truth. If you happen to fall into the category of the 90% of people who look at their goals and are unable to accomplish them because - they "don't have time," "did not have the resources," or "couldn't find the motivation," the truth is that you are not lazy, under productive, or lacking motivation. The unhinged reality is that you simply did not want to do the thing you set out to do.
And that is not to shame you in any way. That is to acknowledge a truth that sits so far deep down on the inside of you that it frequently gets overlooked - every goal you are overlooking is one you do not actually want.
So now the question is why don't you want those things even when you say you do. This comes down to one of two things:
- Either you are actually so busy in the life you have created that you do not have time for the things you say you want, or
- The things you do say you want exist in such stark contrast to the person you were called to be that your inner being just won't let you win where you were never intended to play.
In either case, the culprit comes down to existing out of alignment to your authentic identity. How can I be so sure? Let's take a closer look at the two cases.
